Hines is one of the world's premier real estate developers. The company was founded in Houston by Gerald Hines in 1957. Over the decades, Hines and members of the Houston ASHRAE chapter developed innovations that influence the built environment all over the world.
This year's past president's night is a celebration of the accomplishments of Hines and members of the Houston Chapter. It is also an opportunity for younger members to learn about a remarkable Houston company and it's legacy.
Jerrold Lea, Executive Vice President of Conceptional Construction will discuss Hines' culture of continuous improvement. You will learn about Hines' industry leading preconstruction services an their development of optimal building design.
Gerald Hines is a mechanical engineer who started his career as a manufacturer's representative for air conditioning equipment in Houston. Mr. Hines transitioned to being one of the world's greatest real estate developers, but never forgot his roots in HVAC. He was pleased to be invited to past presidents night and help celebrate our shared heritage. Mr. Hines is planning to participate in a discussion about his history and the Hines company.

Since founding Hines in 1957, Mr. Hines has built the company into one of the
leading real estate firms in the world. He has also been recognized for his
adherence to the highest quality and ethical standards and for his support
of urban planning initiatives.

Managed preconstruction services for over 165 million square feet of projects. Some of the most recent projects are:
- 200,000-square-foot Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville, AR
- 2 million-square-foot Devon Energy World Headquarters in Oklahoma City
- 1.5 million-square-foot One Museum Place in Shanghai, China
- 1 million-square-foot 609 Main at Texas in Houston
- 330,000-square-foot Dr. P. Phillips Performing Arts Center with separate performance halls in Orlando, FL
- 1.1 million-square-foot Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company in Milwaukee
Summary
Since joining Hines in 1981, Mr. Lea has been responsible for consultant selection
and contract negotiations, budgeting, scheduling, management of consultants’
designs, and contractor and subcontractor bidding and negotiations for over 165
million square feet of commercial, office buildings, retail complexes, hotels,
sports facilities, clean rooms, performing arts theaters and museums. He is
currently responsible for all preconstruction activities for Hines’ North American projects.
