I hope everyone had a fantastic holiday and that all of you have had an opportunity to attend the Past Presidents night.  That is always a great way to start off the year.  Our first regular meeting will be in February and I know you will not want to miss it.  Mr. Mark Seibert will be speaking on High Performance and Sustainable Buildings.  He has three case studies (see below) that he will share with all of us.  He has some real live performance data and so this will not be another lecture on how to do things, it will be a review of what things should look like if we are truly designing High Performance Buildings.  It should be a very informative and enlightening presentation, so be sure to mark your calendars and make your reservations early.  I will look forward to seeing all of you then.

Title:  A case study of where energy is consumed in high performance buildings

Sub-meter electrical data will be presented from three projects, Plano Elementary, Richardsville Elementary and Rodeo Palms Jr High.  A summary of energy consumption, (i.e. HVAC, lighting, computer loads, kitchen loads, etc.) for each school will be presented along with the lessons learned from analysis of the data.

Plano Elementary, located in Bowling Green Kentucky, was opened in 2004, operated at a EUI is 28 kbtu/sqft.  At the time of operation, Plano Elementary earned an Energystar score of 99.  Plano has a geothermal HVAC system with DOAS OA system.

Richardsville Elementary School, also located in Bowling Green Kentucky, is the nation’s 1^st Net Zero Public School.  The 75,000 sqft elementary school was opened in 2009 and operates at an EUI of 18 kbtu/sqft.  Richardsville Elementary has a geothermal HVAC with demand control OA system, day-lighting harvesting system 365 kw roof and ground mounted photovoltaic system.

Rodeo Palms Jr High, located in Alvin, Texas, is a 168,000 sqft junior high school.  RPJH was opened in 2012 and operates at an EUI of 21.7 ktbu/sqft.  Rodeo Palms Jr High has a water cooled HVAC system with demand control OA system and day-light harvesting system.
